For years, Vancouver has had a reputation for being a city with a boring nightlife. Ask around, and you’ll hear the same refrain: expensive covers, repetitive clubs and a scene that feels the same no matter where you go.
Before I ever stepped foot inside BaldyLox Vintage I felt like I already knew my way around. Tiktok’s and Instagram reels of the shop constantly popped up on my feeds since last year— snippets of customers trying on outfits, piles of vintage finds and the owner’s larger-than-life personality grabbing my attention. I found myself wondering: “Who is this bald guy, and how did he build such a following?”
In between the walls of a senior home, an elderly patient sits quietly – her body tense and her gaze distant. Then, within moments of hearing a familiar tune, something shifts. Her shoulders soften. Her face relaxes into a gentle smile.

A new Vancouver art exhibit is creating space for Filipino-Canadian youth to reflect on their identity, community, and care.
